Being practically minded has enabled Hugh Jamieson to understand how designs must work and be practical, as well as fulfilling a function. After spending a number of formative years with a major furnishings wholesaler, with extensive training, visiting mills and factories as well as architects, interior designers and decorators, department stores and upholsterers, Hugh Jamieson developed an outlet for his design and organisational skills with a small group of family owned traditional exclusive hotels, scheming and overseeing refurbishing works to bedrooms and public areas. This and a commission to fully furnish a whole house in London to let on behalf of overseas landlords, provided a stepping stone to establishing At Home in Cambridge in 1982. Hugh Jamieson, a Fellow of the British Interior Design Association (BIDA), regularly visits exhibitions and trade showrooms, attends courses and seminars, visits workshops and workrooms, subscribes to trade journals and some of the major interior design monthly magazines, all as part of a continuous professional development programme. He is continually sourcing new materials and ideas to help him in his approach to always providing the highest quality advice and expertise.
